Unpacking Gender Equity Policies

The Deeds Not Words 2024 summit explored findings from the groundbreaking GEP Analysis project, which examined effective gender equity policies in film & TV across Germany, the UK, and Canada. The research identified what works — and what doesn’t — in achieving meaningful industry change.

The GEP (Gender Equity Policy) Analysis Project was led by Prof. Skadi Loist (University of Babelsberg), Design Otherwise’s Prof. Doris Ruth Eikhof (University of Glasgow), Prof. Deb Verhoeven (University of Alberta), Prof. Elisabeth Prommer (University of Rostock) and Dr Amanda Coles (Deakin University). Deeds Not Words 2025 was produced by Helen Shreeve and Georgia Hewson with Sarah Burbedge, and held at King’s College London on 17 April 2024.

A Conversation for Action

Chaired by TV news presenter Jane Hill and DIA consultant Shani Dhanda, this one-day summit featured contributions from Sara Putt (Bafta), Alison Grade (Mission Accomplished), Gareth Ellis-Unwin (Bedlam Film Production), Su-Mei Thompson (Media Trust), Mia Bays (BFI), Julia Brown (BFI), Birgit Moldaschl (Austrian Film Institute), Inga Becker (MOIN Film Fund), Tolu Stedford (Story Compound, Philippa Childs (Bectu), Katie Bailiff (Women in Film + TV), Lalita Taylor (BBC WiSTEM) and Laura Mansfield (ScreenSkills).
